Heff has performed at our annual summer "Corn Off" for several years now. He is fantastic. Everyone thoroughly enjoys his music and I hear nothing but complements from our guests. Amazingly, I don't think the guy takes breaks, plays till the event is over. Last year we found out Heff was booked the date of the event. We changed the date of the event. That should tell you all you need to know.

Heff ran the Open Mic nights for me for years. He was always professional, always arrived on time, took care of the setup, I never had to worry about anything. He did a great job. I also had him play for our "Cruise Nights" in the Summer. Again, always does a great job. He is the first one I call when we are planning a special event at the bar and are looking for live music. 100% recommendation. Oh, and the music is great also.

I met Heff a few years ago at a Halloween festival in Bucks County. I sat around a fire pit and listened to him sing every classic rock song I could remember and then some. He is the type of musician you can sing along with. I have hired Heff multiple times though the years and recommend him to anyone planning a house party or family gathering.

I had Heff playing at my Chalfont PA restaurant before selling it and opening here is Stone Harbor. Heff was easily the most popular performer we had. All night long my staff was answering the question, "when is he here again?". Our guests loved the songs he played and would be singing and dancing right up till closing. I'm putting a large deck on my Stone Harbor restaurant and will be giving Heff a call. Take care brother, see you soon.

Froehlich's Farm and Garden Center holds one of the largest Fall Festivals in Bucks county. Heff performs here every year. What a job he does! There is one complaint I have though, the Fall Festival runs September through till the end of October. Heff used to play several weekends during the Festival but now is only able to commit to one. Maybe we can get an extra weekend this year. What do you think?

Played the Great Barn Brewery August 25th with Jay Regan. Jay and I had played together many, many years ago, first as "Person 2 Person", then in "Time Slyder" and then several years layer as "Heff and Jay". If you haven't been to the Great Barn Brewery yet, check it out. They have only been at the Warrington location since April of this year. It's a large place with outside seating and a great music venue. They are located in Valley Square.

Heff's Bio
Hello and welcome to Heff Music! I’m John “Heff” Heffren, solo Guitarist and Singer. I’ve been playing and singing for quite some time, in fact, I was in grade school when I played in my first band, “The Hot Rocks” with my brother Tom and a few friends from the neighborhood. The highlight of our grade school career was playing on the Al Albert’s show up at Hershey park. I believe we performed “Proud Mary” and “Rollover Beethoven”. Unfortunately it never dawned upon us to make an audio recording at the time (yes, just audio, cell phones and video cameras had not yet been invented). Would have been fun now to hear how we sounded back then. I continued to play in several bands and duos throughout the years, including Time Slyder (the pic to the right is me in Time Slyder 1986) and ”Leap of Faith” again with my brother Tom (that’s him on the far right in the pic below - somewhere around 1993). I put all the band stuff behind me for a while and concentrated on work and raising a family. Then somewhere around 2007 I got the urge to play again and decided to give the solo performance path a shot.


One of the advantages of being a solo performer is that you get to call the shots. No more arguing over song selection, no more discussions about “band direction” and no more rehearsals. However, I would have to say what I like best is that I get to insert my “Performance Philosophy” unchallenged. And what is my “Performance Philosophy”? It’s actually pretty simple:
Number one: Play hits. Out of 100 people maybe one person is familiar with an obscure song selection from some band’s first album that never received any air play. Don’t pick that song. Play the songs people know. There is a reason the song was a hit.
Number two: Perform the song as close to the original as you possibly can. I have found that the vast majority of people are not interested in a performer’s “Artistic Interpretation” of a song. For the most part they want to hear it the way they remember it. Cover artists earn their stripes by how well they perform cover tunes.
Number three: Pick songs you enjoy performing. It is difficult to fake emotion and enjoyment. There are thousands of hit songs to choose from. Pick the ones you enjoy the most, it will be reflected in your performance.
Number four: ALWAYS REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE PLAYING FOR. Bend over backwards to make your hosts, patrons, managers, staff, fans and guests happy. They are the reason you are there. Take requests, play a little longer even play a repeat if that’s what they want. If you keep them happy and coming back, you’ll be back.

Now for a little info on my song selection. My strong suite is Classic Rock. Songs from the 60’s and 70’s. These are songs that are timeless and extremely well known. Songs from artists and performers such as CCR, Simon and Garfunkle, The Byrds, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, The Beatles, The Stones and many more. I also throw in some 80’s and 90’s hits and even a few from 2000 and beyond. More recently I started performing some country songs. I feel it is important to specialize in something and for me that is Classic Rock. I would rather be known as the guy who does a great job on the Classic Rock songs than the guy who tries to do everything and ends up being mediocre at best.
